A Real Patient Story: An Unexpected Surprise

dog hair storyEvery once in a while, a case surprises me in the best way. ❤️

Recently, I started working with a very wise Great Pyrenees gentleman who originally came to see me for hind-end weakness and mobility concerns.

Like many older dogs, his family wanted to help him stay as comfortable, mobile, and independent as possible. Our focus has been on supporting his movement and overall function through regular animal chiropractic care and Reiki.

But along the way, his owners and I started noticing something we weren’t expecting…

His bald patches were beginning to grow fur again! 🐾

Week by week, we have watched new fur begin filling in areas that had previously been bald. For a Great Pyrenees—known for that beautiful, fluffy coat—it has been especially fun to watch!

Did Chiropractic and Reiki Make His Fur Grow Back?

That’s the interesting question—but we can’t say that they did.

Hair loss in dogs can have many potential causes, including allergies, skin conditions, hormonal changes, infections, nutritional factors, underlying health conditions, and more. Unexplained hair loss or changes in a dog’s coat should always be evaluated by a veterinarian.

What makes this case so interesting isn’t about claiming that chiropractic care or Reiki caused his hair to return.

It’s about the unexpected changes owners sometimes notice when we’re working toward a completely different goal.

His family brought him to me because they were concerned about his mobility. As we’ve continued working together, they’ve been able to observe changes in how he moves, how he functions—and, unexpectedly, how he looks!

The Original Goal Is Still the Most Important One

While we’re enjoying watching that fluffy Great Pyrenees coat make its comeback, our primary goals haven’t changed:

🐾 Supporting hind-end strength and function

🐾 Maintaining comfortable movement

🐾 Helping reduce compensatory movement patterns

🐾 Supporting mobility as he ages

🐾 Helping him maintain the best possible quality of life

The returning fur?

That’s simply a pretty wonderful—and very fluffy—bonus. 🐶❤️

Cases like this are one of the reasons I love working with animals. Sometimes we start with one goal, and along the way, their bodies surprise us.

I hope you enjoyed this little patient story as much as I’ve enjoyed watching it unfold!
